Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a reliability platform for affirm’s production systems, blending distributed systems with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve the health of their services.

This is a highly creative role where you will own quarterly goals, collaborate with product, design and analytics, and advocate for reliability, quality, and maintainability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python/Kotlin/AWS/MySQL/Kubernetes).
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivery with simple, extensible design.
• Comfort making significant changes in a large code base with safe tooling.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and owning growth.
• Strong verbal and written communication across a global team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics across the lifecycle.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by creating metrics and on-call support.
• Set and improve code review and design standards beyond your team.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and example.
