Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for production systems. You will blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single view to understand, debug, and improve service health.

This highly creative, hands-on role emphasizes reliability, quality, and maintainability, while fostering a culture of ownership and growth across a globally distributed team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Design, develop and launch backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ship web apps with React or Vue.
• Use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Define a technical plan for delivering a major feature with simple, extensible design.
• Make meaningful changes in a large code base with safe tools and practices.
• Proactively seek feedback and own your growth, with strong collaboration skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with a global team.
• Equivalent practical experience or Bachelor's degree required.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to shape decisions with risks and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify issues and lead efforts to resolve them.
• Support operations and availability by creating metrics and guiding on-call efforts.
• Raise quality by setting and promoting code review and design standards.
• Develop talent by providing feedback and mentoring through example.
