Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. The Batch Infra team builds a scalable, self-serve compute platform to support ML, product, and financial engineering workloads in the cloud.

The role focuses on designing, developing, and delivering backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin, with strong emphasis on reliability, distributed systems, and orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Flyte, and Temporal. Remote-first with strong collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi.
• Experience scaling frameworks like Spark or Flink on Kubernetes for large datasets.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features with simple, extensible design.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guide engineers through ambiguity, and support delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics in ideation and decision making.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Monitor metrics and support on-call efforts to ensure availability and reliability.
• Promote code quality and design standards across the team through examples and writing.
