Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior backend engineer to lead the Batch Infra team in building reliable, scalable compute solutions for ML, product, and finance workloads. You’ll own quarterly goals, mentor engineers, and partner with product, design and analytics to deliver high-impact features.

The role emphasizes designing distributed systems on AWS and Kubernetes, with Airflow/Flyte/Temporal for workflows, and a focus on maintainable, high-quality code.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Flyte, Temporal, Luigi, etc).
• Ability to design scalable, maintainable components and write high-quality code.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics across the full development lifecycle.
• Proactively identify issues and lead efforts to resolve them.
• Maintain and improve team artifacts, metrics, and on-call readiness.
• Promote code quality, design standards, and mentorship within the team.
