We’re seeking a Software Engineer to design a next-generation reliability platform for affirm’s production systems, blending distributed systems with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve health.

This role demands hands-on leadership, strong reliability focus, and a high bar for maintainability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Backend systems design and development at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature or system component.
• Proven ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and build tooling to support this.
• Proactive in seeking feedback from team and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication with a global team.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics during ideation and decisions.
• Identify and lead solutions to project, process, or technology issues.
• Monitor and support reliability of team artifacts and on-call readiness.
• Set and improve code review and design standards beyond the team.
• Mentor and develop talent on the team.
