Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for affirm’s production systems. You’ll blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve the health of their services.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role that values rapid iteration and strong reliability, quality, and maintainability, with a remote-first culture across the U.S.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps using React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Defined a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base and developing tools for safe changes.
• Ownership mindset and proactive feedback seeking.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with a global team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics in ideation and decisions with risk awareness.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Set code review and design standards to improve quality across teams.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and guidance.
