Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Coding Educator to lead standardized onboarding for the Middle Revenue Cycle Coding team. The role focuses on Best Practice workflows, Client Coding Guidelines, and continuing education to keep coders current with evolving regulations and payer requirements.

You will deliver training across large and small groups, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while supporting audits and education strategies in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Professional licenses in acute coding through AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC, CPC, CCS-P).
• 3+ years of acute coding experience in large multi-specialty hospital or equivalent health-related organization.
• Experience with inpatient hospital coding.
• Experience with ICD-10-PCS.
• Advanced knowledge of acute coding classifications, guidelines, coding conventions, and payment methodologies.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of CMS, AHA, DHS, and Joint Commission regulations affecting coding practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, MRCT technologies, and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
• Travel up to 10%.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and work full time Mon-Fri (6:30 am - 3:00 pm CST).
• Ability to establish positive working relationships and manage detailed work.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deliver, and maintain a standardized educational program for onboarding of new hires within Middle Revenue Cycle Coding Operational Team.
• Develop all educational materials and coding aids for formal training and daily use by coders.
• Oversee centralized Learning Community for Acute Coding operations OLC/TI toolset and provide consultative expertise.
• Provide educational programs on updated regulatory requirements, coding guidelines, payer requirements, and topics for large/small group settings.
• Assist with continuing education requirements and audits through HealthStream and instructor-led education.
• Develop education strategies to improve pre-bill and audit scores and mentor others in the coding organization.
• Collaborate with business leaders, instructional designers, SMEs to develop learning objectives and curricula.
• Utilize LMS, MS Office and relevant software to support training delivery.
