Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Coding Education Specialist to lead proactive coding education for physicians and clinicians. You will onboard and train physicians and APPs, review documentation for accuracy, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve complex coding issues.

The role emphasizes Epic knowledge, documentation quality, and collaboration across departments to ensure compliant reimbursement. Remote-friendly with US-based requirements.

Qualifications

• Advanced coding knowledge across CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS with compliance focus.
• Deep understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.
• Experience with Epic and reporting tools to analyze data and improve workflow.
• Strong problem solving and attention to detail in coding and documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with clinicians and teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive coding education via newsletters, scorecards, and presentations.
• Lead onboarding and compliance training for physicians and APPs, including residents and students.
• Provide documentation feedback and escalate non-coding issues when needed.
• Serve as primary coding contact and resolve complex issues like NCCI and high-complexity edits.
• Monitor Epic queues to ensure timely, accurate charge submissions and reduce denials.
• Collaborate with CMOs, Clinical Informatics, Risk Adjustment, and Population Health.
• Participate in meetings to identify trends and deliver targeted education.
• Refine Epic templates, entries, and SmartSets to improve efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare/Medicaid and AHIMA standards.
