Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) offers the EDGE program for Civil Engineers, a 15–24 month rotational development track. Participants gain exposure to Location and Design, Materials, Residency Operations, Construction, Structure and Bridge, Maintenance, Environmental, Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Operations.

The program emphasizes on-the-job learning, technical and leadership development, with potential placement into a classified role after completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
• Willingness to obtain EIT designation within 12 months of employment.
• Ability to apply engineering knowledge to analyze and solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to complete projects and tasks.
• Communicate effectively with diverse groups, orally and in writing.
• Prepare analyses, reports and recommendations based on data.
• Manage multiple projects and deliverables within scope and timeline.
• Follow safety practices and promote safe work behaviors.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on projects.
• Support design, inspection, and maintenance activities as assigned.
• Interpret plans and contribute to roadway design and construction.
