Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) offers the EDGE Program for Civil Engineers, a 15–24 month, full-time development track with on-the-job rotations across design, materials, residency operations, construction, structure and bridge, and other engineering areas.

EDGE associates develop technical skills and leadership competencies, prepare analyses and reports, and work with internal staff, local authorities, and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) or related field.
• Ability to pass FE exam and obtain EIT designation within 12 months.
• Knowledge of construction, maintenance policies and procedures.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering data and prepare clear reports and recommendations.
• Communicate with agencies, contractors, and the public effectively.
• Assist in project management, scheduling, budgeting, and status reporting.
• Support roadway design, environmental, and maintenance activities.
