Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation in Suffolk, VA is launching the EDGE Civil Engineering program for new graduates. This 15-24 month development path exposes you to design, materials, residency operations, construction, and traffic engineering, with the goal of developing well-rounded VDOT engineers.

As an EDGE associate, you will perform engineering analyses, prepare recommendations, and support project delivery while collaborating with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET-accredited program. FE exam within 12 months encouraged.
• Experience with basic civil engineering concepts and design principles is beneficial.
• Strong communication and project coordination skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in engineering project tasks across design, construction, and maintenance disciplines.
• Analyze engineering data and prepare reports and recommendations.
• Communicate with internal staff, local agencies, consultants, and the public.
• Support adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Assist in managing project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
