Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is offering the EDGE Program, a 15–24 month engineer development initiative designed to rotate graduates through construction, environmental, maintenance, materials, planning and other civil engineering domains. The program provides on-the-job learning and prepares associates for classified engineering roles upon completion.

Qualifications

• Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtain EIT within 12 months of employment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, or related ABET-accredited program.
• Knowledge of highway construction principles.
• Must be at least 18 years old by start date.
• Skill in basic computer operations.

Responsibilities

• Support entry-level engineers in construction, environmental, maintenance, materials, planning, residency operations, right of way, roadways design, structures and bridges, and traffic engineering.
• Apply engineering studies in real projects within the EDGE Program and progress toward positions aligned with agency needs.
