Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites entry-level engineers to join the EDGE program, a 15–24 month development track designed to expose you to civil, structural, environmental, and planning disciplines through on-the-job rotations.

EDGE associates gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to transition into classified positions aligned with agency needs after program completion, with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or ABET-accredited program by start of employment.
• Ability to pass FE exam and obtain EIT within 12 months of employment.
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance contract policies.
• Must be at least 18 years of age at start of employment.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Participate in EDGE program to develop engineering expertise.
• Perform analyses, reports, and recommendations.
• Provide technical advice and training within program areas.
• Coordinate projects to ensure timely and accurate completion.
• Communicate with VDOT staff, government agencies, contractors, and the public.
• Apply engineering principles in roadway design and related disciplines.
