Job summary

Goodwill Southern New England is hiring for a Retail Material Handler to move donated goods, assist customers, and prepare items for processing. The role supports store operations under the Store/Outlet Manager and requires regular weekend, holiday, and evening hours typical of retail.

Responsibilities include loading and unloading, sorting and pricing new arrivals, and assisting customers with donations and purchases. The position may cross-train into janitorial and sales tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required; and one to three months related experience or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to communicate with customers in one-on-one situations.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio and percent.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Responsibilities

• Follow instructions to move materials and containers.
• Assist donors by carrying donated merchandise into the store and customers to their vehicles.
• Sort, price and grade newly arrived goods.
• Move materials using hand trucks, carts or pallet jacks.
• Lift up to 25–100 pounds, and up to 600 pounds on crates with assistance.
• Prepare shipping documents and ensure crates are labeled.
