Job summary

Goodwill of Southern New England is seeking a Retail Material Handler responsible for moving materials, assisting donors and customers, and preparing goods for processing. The role involves loading/unloading trucks, sorting items, and maintaining organized work areas at the store or outlet.

Regular weekend, holiday and evening hours are typical, with potential cross-training to janitor or sales roles based on business needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required; 1-3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Students under 18 may be hired part-time but may not operate hazardous equipment and must follow CT DOL hours for minors.

Responsibilities

• Move materials using hand trucks, pallets, or carts between storage and work areas.
• Assist donors by bringing donated merchandise inside the store and help customers with purchases.
• Sort, price and grade donated goods.
• Prepare shipping documentation and label crates for transport; install load bars for safe transit.
• Lift heavy objects and maintain a clean work area; assist at designated retail outlets with fixtures and donations.
• Remove snow/ice from sidewalks to ensure a safe environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
