Job summary

Goodwill Industries Southern New England Inc is seeking a Retail Material Handler to move, sort, and prepare donated goods for processing and display at our Norwich, CT location. You will assist donors, load/unload items, and help customers with heavy purchases, adhering to safety protocols.

The role may require weekend, holiday, and evening shifts typical to retail, with opportunities for cross-training in related duties and support functions within the store/center.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; 1–3 months related experience or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.
• Ability to communicate with customers one-on-one.
• Students under 18 may be hired part-time but cannot operate hazardous equipment.

Responsibilities

• Move materials using hand truck, carts, pallet jack, or straddle stacker.
• Assist donors and customers by carrying donated goods to vehicles.
• Sort, price, and grade donated goods for display or processing.
• Stock shelves and prepare shipping documentation.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper labeling of crates and loads.
• Lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds and push crates up to 600 pounds.
• Assist in setting up fixtures and moving items within retail outlets.
• Perform duties as assigned by supervisor.
