Job summary

Goodwill of Southern New England is seeking a Retail Material Handler to manage the movement of materials at the store or outlet, assist donors and customers, and prepare donated goods for processing under the direction of the Store Manager or Outlet Manager.

This role typically requires weekend, holiday and evening hours; it may be cross-trained for duties of a Janitor, Material Sorter, or Sales Associate based on business needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, not required; and one to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Students under 18 may be hired part-time but have restrictions on hazardous equipment and hours per CT DOL rules.

Responsibilities

• Follow work orders to move materials and containers.
• Assist donors and customers by carrying items to/from vehicles.
• Sort, price and grade newly arrived goods.
• Transport materials using hand truck, carts, pallet jack or straddle stacker.
• Operate equipment to handle, move or dispose of materials as needed.
• Stock shelves and prepare inventory of stock.
• Prepare shipping documentation and label crates for transport; install load bars and padding as required.
• Lift heavy objects manually and maintain a clean, safe work area.
