Job summary

Advocate Health in Milwaukee, WI is seeking an experienced professional coder to perform complex CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for physician services and select outpatient facilities. This remote role supports the Trauma schedule and involves adherence to official coding guidelines and CMS regulations.

The ideal candidate holds a current AAPC or AHIMA coding credential, 3–5 years of multi-specialty experience, and proficiency with Epic or similar EMR systems.

Qualifications

• Active coding certification issued by AAPC or AHIMA is required.
• Dual certifications are preferred.
• Completion of an accredited medical coding or HIM program, or equivalent experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform complex professional fee coding (CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM) for physician services in office and hospital settings.
• Perform entry-level facility coding for simple outpatient encounters and basic inpatient services where applicable.
• Ensure coding adheres to official guidelines, CMS regulations, and organizational standards.
• Identify need for clinical queries for documentation clarification when necessary.
• Maintain high accuracy and productivity for the workload.
• May provide informal guidance to new coding staff on professional coding nuances.
