Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced medical coder to perform complex professional coding (CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM) for physician services in both office and hospital settings. You will apply modifiers and E/M guidelines with accuracy and meet rigorous productivity standards.

The role requires AAPC or AHIMA certification, with dual certifications preferred, and includes remote work eligibility with a nationwide scope. Epic EHR proficiency is a plus.

Qualifications

• Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
• Advanced proficiency in CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding.
• Understanding of facility payment methodologies (MS-DRGs).
• Experience with Epic or similar EHR systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform complex, specialty-specific professional fee coding (CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM) for physician services rendered in office and hospital settings.
• Perform entry-level facility coding for simple outpatient encounters and basic inpatient services using ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS.
• Ensure all coding adheres to official guidelines, CMS regulations, and organizational standards.
• Identify the need for formal clinical queries for documentation clarification when necessary.
• Maintain high accuracy and productivity standards for the workload.
• May provide informal guidance to new coding staff on professional coding nuances.
