Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Design Engineer II, Transmission to own the preliminary design lifecycle for utility-scale solar and related projects. The role serves as the technical owner from kickoff through design-to-preconstruction handoff, coordinating with engineering, estimating, scheduling, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, or related engineering.
• PE licensure is a nice-to-have, not required.
• Minimum of 3+ years in transmission line design or related power engineering.
• Proficiency with transmission line design software (PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS).
• Strong understanding of routing, clearances, conductor/shield wire selections, and industry standards.
• Able to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary transmission line and gen-tie design for pursuits and projects, defining basis, assumptions, route, and connections for 10% design deliverables.
• Review client documents and agreements to identify requirements, risks, and scope outside SOLV standards.
• Serve as primary subject matter expert coordinating inputs from engineering, survey, environmental, land, and other teams.
• Lead development of the 10% transmission line design to support estimating and pricing.
• Coordinate with estimating/scheduling to align design scope, route length, and commercial assumptions.
• Prepare and issue proposals to EORs and subcontractors, ensuring technical scope and exclusions are clear.
• Handle handoff to Preconstruction Engineering with risks, comments, and decisions clearly documented.
• Review and approve design deliverables for compliance with NESC, IEEE, and other standards.
