Job summary

GFT is seeking an experienced Substation P&C Designer for a remote role. You will contribute to power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects, focusing on high voltage protection/controls for substations up to 765kV.

You will prepare one- and three-line diagrams, relay and equipment wiring diagrams, and SCADA interfaces; collaborate with clients and internal teams; and perform design calculations, material sourcing, and quality reviews to ensure safety, cost, and reliability.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experience.
• Knowledge and ability to utilize computer-aided drafting including AutoCAD & MicroStation.
• Familiar knowledge of NESC, NEC and IEEE codes.
• Knowledge of substation voltages, MV, HV, EHV.
• Ability to apply project schedules to complete tasks on time and within budget.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to review project documents and propose value engineering ideas.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Design and execution of high-voltage substations projects in the 4kV – 765kV range with emphasis on safety, cost, quality, and reliability.
• Generate designs and detailed engineering deliverables under supervision of lead engineer and project manager.
• Complete basic engineering calculations related to design/engineering deliverables.
• Develop one & three line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control/relay panel layouts and specifications; SCADA interfaces including RTUs, HMIs and IEDs; auxiliary system design including batteries and chargers.
• Compile complete list of relay and control materials for substation projects and quote/order materials as necessary per contracts.
• Follow supervisor instructions for complex design tasks.
• Investigate drawings/conditions to ensure conformance to standards and customer requirements.
• Travel to job sites for project assessment and data gathering as needed.
• Communicate and interact with clients.
• Perform quality reviews of projects completed by peers.
