Job summary

GFT is seeking a Sr. Physical Substation Designer to work remote in the United States. You will design high‑voltage substations up to 500kV, generate detailed deliverables, and review field data and drawings to ensure safety, quality and reliability.

You’ll collaborate with senior engineers, manage complex design tasks, and travel as needed for data gathering while supporting a strong work‑life balance and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant substation or electrical T&D design experience.
• Expertise in CAD tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI standards.
• Ability to review vendor submittals and coordinate design data.

Responsibilities

• Design and execution of high-voltage substations in the 34.5kV–500kV range with emphasis on safety, cost, quality and reliability.
• Generate designs and detailed engineering deliverables under supervision of lead engineer.
• Detail physical aspects: general arrangement, elevation, grounding and conduit drawings.
• Perform basic engineering calculations related to deliverables.
• Follow supervisor instructions for complex design tasks.
• Use CAD tools to create drawings and deliverables.
• Inspect installations and ensure conformance to specs and safety standards.
• Oversee project production to meet schedule and budget.
• Prepare and study technical drawings and wiring diagrams for installation.
• Travel to job sites for data gathering and return with field notes.
