Job summary

GFT is seeking a Sr. Physical Substation Designer to work remotely in the United States.

The role focuses on the design of high-voltage substations through 500 kV and involves leading the creation of detailed drawings and calculations, field data collection, and collaboration with senior engineers. The candidate will contribute to power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects, ensuring safety, quality, and reliability while supporting a flexible work environment and

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant substation or electrical T&D design experience.
• Thorough knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI and design guides for rural substations.
• Ability to review and coordinate vendor submittals.
• Knowledge of substation phase spacing and electrical clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute high voltage substation projects in 34.5kV–500kV range with emphasis on safety, cost, quality, and reliability.
• Generate designs and detailed deliverables under supervision of lead engineer.
• Detail physical aspects of the design: general arrangement, elevation, grounding, conduit drawings.
• Perform basic engineering calculations related to deliverables.
• Create drawings with CAD tools and develop construction documents.
• Travel to job sites for data gathering as needed and report back with field notes.
