Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary substation design for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects.

This fully remote role partners with BD, estimating, and engineering teams to define design basis, assumptions, and deliverables through the 10% design stage. You will guide engineers and subcontractors, review client documents, coordinate with EORs, and ensure alignment with schedules, risks, and project scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Strong understanding of substation design principles, protection schemes, and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to electrical engineering and solar development.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned projects, defining the design basis, key assumptions, equipment requirements, layouts, and open items for the 10% design deliverable.
• Review client documents, exhibits, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and related information to identify requirements, risks, and scope outside SOLV standards.
• Serve as the primary substation design SME and coordinate inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other specialists.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design, including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings to support estimating and pricing.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to ensure alignment of design, quantities, scope narrative, and schedule.
• Deliver owner-reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD in line with the project stage-gate.
