Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. in the United States is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary substation design for utility-scale solar, BESS, and related interconnections.

This fully remote role partners with BD kickoff and the Preconstruction handoff to align design basis, scope, and risks. You will lead 10% design efforts, coordinate with EORs and subcontractors, review technical exhibits, and ensure compliance with IEEE, NEC, and NESC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a nice-to-have, not required.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD or ETAP.
• Strong knowledge of substation design principles and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.

Responsibilities

• Lead preliminary substation design and ownership for assigned projects.
• Coordinate with engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other stakeholders.
• Develop 10% design deliverables including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Review client documents and identify requirements, risks, and scope gaps.
• Mentor junior team members and coordinate with subcontractors to meet design goals.
• Ensure handoff readiness to Preconstruction Engineering and LNTP processes.
