Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. seeks a Design Engineer II, Substation to own preliminary substation design and engineering lifecycle for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects.

This fully remote role anchors technical ownership from BD kickoff through design-to-preconstruction handoff. You will coordinate with engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, and scheduling, and lead 10% design development, SLDs, and equipment sizing while aligning scope, risks, and assumptions for accurate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering preferred.
• Strong understanding of IEEE, NEC, NESC, and related standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned pursuits and projects by defining the design basis, key assumptions, equipment requirements, layouts, quantities, risks, and open items for the 10% design deliverable.
• Review client documents, technical exhibits, PPAs, interconnection agreements, utility handbooks, and owner standards to identify requirements, risks and scope.
• Serve as the primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, NERC support, revenue metering, security, and other subspecialties.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, equipment sizing, and refinements for estimating.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to ensure preliminary design, quantities, scope narrative, schedule, and commercial assumptions align.
• Review estimates for technical completeness, identify gaps, exclusions, and scope items needing clarification or escalation.
• Deliver the owner reviewed preliminary substation design to estimating and BD per the project stage-gate schedule.
