Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary substation design for utility-scale solar, BESS, and related projects.

This fully remote role acts as the technical owner from kickoff through handoff, coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, and scheduling. You will develop the 10% design, review requirements, and ensure alignment with project baselines, schedules, and risk mitigation while mentoring junior team members and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of IEEE, NEC, NESC standards.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design for pursuits and projects.
• Review client documents, technical exhibits, PPAs and interconnection agreements to identify requirements, risks and scope outside SOLV standards.
• Coordinate inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, NERC support and other specialists.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, quantities and commercial assumptions.
• Deliver the owner reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD per the project stage-gate schedule.
• Support handoff to Preconstruction Engineering with RFIs, client comments and design risks.
