Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary substation design and engineering lifecycle for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects.

This fully remote role serves as the technical owner from BD kickoff through design-to-preconstruction handoff, ensuring alignment of design basis, scope, schedule, and risks. You will lead 10% design development, review client documents, coordinate inputs, and support estimating with pricing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Demonstrated proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Thorough understanding of substation design principles, protection schemes, and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, etc).

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned pursuits and projects by reviewing inputs to define the design basis and assumptions for the 10% design deliverable.
• Review client provided documents, technical exhibits, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and related project information to identify requirements, risks, opportunities, and scope outside SOLV standards.
• Serve as the primary substation design subject matter expert and coordinate inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling, and other specialists.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design, including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings for pricing support.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to ensure preliminary design, quantities, scope narrative, and schedule align with assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps, exclusions, and scope items needing clarification.
• Deliver owner-reviewed preliminary substation design to estimating and BD per project stage-gate schedule.
• Participate in client meetings to review technical exhibits, explain design assumptions, identify risks, and clarify requirements.
• Prepare and issue proposal information to EORs and subcontractors; align with LNTP requirements and hand off.
• Prepare engineering scope, proposal information, schedule inputs, and coordination details for handoff to Preconstruction Engineering.
