Job summary

SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II for remote work to own the preliminary substation design for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnections.

You will serve as the technical owner from kickoff through Design-to-Preconstruction handoff, aligning design basis, scope, schedule, and risks before execution begins. The role requires coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, and scheduling, and delivering the 10% design for pricing and handoff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or equivalent is nice-to-have, not required.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficient in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP or similar).
• Strong understanding of substation design principles and standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for electrical engineering and solar development.
• Familiarity with interconnection requirements and contract language.

Responsibilities

• Own the 10% design by defining design basis, equipment needs, layouts, quantities, risks and open items.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements and owner standards to identify requirements and risks.
• Serve as the SME for substation design coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, scheduling and other teams.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, scope, and commercial assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps or exclusions.
• Deliver preliminary design to estimating and BD per project stage-gate schedule.
• Participate in client meetings to review technical exhibits and design assumptions.
• Support contractual exhibit reviews and respond to LNTP requirements.
