Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced backend engineering leader to set the technical strategy for a high-scale ledger platform. You will work with product, design and analytics to ensure sustainable, auditable systems and manage on-call operations.

The right candidate has 8+ years building backend systems in Python or Kotlin, with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes experience, preferably in financial tech. This is a remote-first role across the United States with equity and a market-based compensation

Qualifications

8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
Proficiency in Python or Kotlin and building distributed services.
Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes in production.
Background in financial systems, ledgering or related domains preferred.
Proven ability to deliver major features with clear execution plans.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon.
Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk controls.
Advocate technical solutions and operational processes across teams.
Own team operations, monitoring, playbooks, and on-call readiness.
Establish code reviews and design standards and propagate them externally.
Develop team talent through feedback and mentorship.
