Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first company reinventing credit with transparent, flexible buy-now-pay-later options. We’re seeking a seasoned backend engineer to lead a Ledger Engineering team, designing scalable, highly available systems in Python or Kotlin.

You’ll own technical strategy for your team, collaborate across product, design and analytics, and ensure robust monitoring, reliability, and on-call readiness while contributing to talent development and code quality standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or related domains where data accuracy matters.
• Ability to deliver major features with a solid technical and execution plan.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align it with business goals.
• Collaborate across product management, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk management.
• Advocate for robust operating processes, monitoring, testing and on-call readiness.
