Affirm's Ledger Engineering team seeks a senior backend engineer to set technical strategy and deliver scalable, reliable systems in a remote-first environment.

With 8+ years in backend design using Python or Kotlin, you will lead cross-functional work with product, design, and analytics, drive high-availability distributed systems on AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes, and mentor teammates. Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Background in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or related domains emphasizing data accuracy and reliability.
• Proven track record delivering major features with a strong execution plan and high-quality code.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to traverse from low level to architecture.
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated growth in cross-functional collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align it with business goals.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood.
• Act as a multiplier by defining technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, playbooks, and on-call readiness.
• Foster quality and ownership by setting and promoting code review and design standards.
