Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced backend engineering leader to set technical strategy for a distributed system stack and drive high-availability delivery.

You will collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and reliability, owning on-call readiness, code standards, and team development. This remote-first role supports US-based teams with strong growth and impact potential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Background in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or related domains.
• Ability to take features from concept to execution with clear plans.
• Strong communication with global engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, playbooks and on-call readiness.
• Set code review and design standards and promote them beyond your team.
