Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to lead the design and delivery of scalable backend systems in a remote-first environment across the United States. You will drive technical strategy, ensure reliability, and partner with product management, design, and analytics to deliver high-impact financial features.

The role requires 8+ years in backend development, strong experience with AWS, Kubernetes and MySQL, and familiarity with financial ledgering or treasury related domains.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or related domains where data accuracy matters.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align it with business projects.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability, risk management and trade-offs.
• Own and improve operational processes, monitoring, and on-call readiness to keep services reliable.
