Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead design and analysis for utility projects. You will mentor junior engineers, drive high-quality deliverables, and apply advanced modeling and standards across diverse transmission line work.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in design, analysis, and PLS-CADD, with a strong grasp of NESC, IEEE, and FERC requirements. This role offers a fully remote arrangement and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field)
• 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar)
• 5+ years of experience working with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm
• 5+ years of experience working in PLS-CADD

Responsibilities

• Responsible for transmission line designs from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis
• Provides senior-level technical expertise ensuring technical accuracy, best practices, and industry-leading design solutions
• Perform key engineering studies such as conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and electrical clearance determinations per NESC and applicable standards
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards, and ensure compliance across project deliverables
• Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change order management
• Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities, resolving design-related field issues
• Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews for both public and private clients
• Develop and present technical reports, support marketing and business development efforts, and build strong relationships with clients and contractors
