Socket.dev is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to support and advance our growing transmission engineering practice. You will provide senior‑level technical expertise, lead complex design and analysis work, mentor junior engineers, and ensure high‑quality deliverables across a wide range of transmission line projects for utility clients.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field).
• 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar).
• 5+ years of experience with electric utility, EPC projects.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for transmission line designs from conceptual through final design (EFM, conductor sizing, impedance, losses, voltage drop).
• Provide senior-level technical expertise ensuring accuracy and best practices.
• Perform studies such as conductor economics, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and clearance per NESC.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC and FERC.
• Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings.
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing, and construction support.
• Perform QA/QC for engineering deliverables and CAD outputs; resolve field issues.
• Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, and installation reviews.
• Develop and present technical reports and support business development.

What you will be doing:

• Responsible for transmission line designs from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis.
• Provides senior‑level technical expertise ensuring technical accuracy, best practices, and industry‑leading design solutions.
• Perform key engineering studies such as conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and electrical clearance determinations per NESC and applicable standards.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards, and ensure compliance across project deliverables.
• Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change order management.
• Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities, resolving design‑related field issues.
• Conduct and lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews for both public and private clients.
• Develop and present technical reports, support marketing and business development efforts, and build strong relationships with clients and contractors.

What you need to have (minimum qualifications):

• B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field)
• 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar)
• 5+ years of experience working with an electric utility, EPC
