Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to serve as a senior SME on resolving complex payroll tax notices, amendments, and corrections across multiple states.

This role leads the case lifecycle, mentors junior staff, and drives process improvements with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of payroll tax defect resolution experience, strong knowledge of Federal/state payroll tax rules, and proficiency in preparing amended returns.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focused on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and payroll corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses.
• Experience preparing amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X, W-2c) across states, including complex local requirements.
• Deep knowledge of FICA, FUTA, FITW, and payroll tax deposit schedules; penalty/interest structures.
• Multi-state payroll tax expertise: reciprocal agreements, resident/nonresident taxation, SUI accounts, local tax compliance.
• Previous experience as a lead/senior specialist or SME; coaching junior staff through complex resolutions.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices, owning the full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across 10+ states end-to-end, including reconciliations.
• Diagnose payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods; trace discrepancies to payroll runs and drive corrections.
• Maintain high productivity resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notices with accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers; raise root-cause analyses with recommended resolutions.
• Coach Senior Payroll Tax Processors and share knowledge to build team capability.
• Contribute to team meetings, QA sessions, and SOP/KB content to reduce recurring errors.
• Identify trends in compliance issues and communicate findings with recommended actions to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams to resolve end-to-end.
