Job summary

Intuit, Inc. seeks a Staff Payroll Tax Processor SME to drive end-to-end resolution of payroll tax issues, lead complex State and Federal notices, and prepare amended returns across multiple states. The role emphasizes resolving tax defects and transferring knowledge to the team.

This is a remote, hourly position with flexible hours, offering overtime eligibility and a focus on process improvement and coaching junior staff. Strong Excel and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency responses.
• Hands-on experience preparing amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law (FICA, FUTA, FITW) and related penalties.
• Multi-state payroll tax expertise across jurisdictions; local requirements handling.
• Experience coaching or training junior staff on complex resolution scenarios.
• Strong written communication; SOPs and KB articles must be clear for tax processors.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the team’s queue from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions.
• Maintain high productivity in resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notice requests with accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers, propose resolutions with root-cause analysis.
• Serve as real-time resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors and coach peers.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions using SBIC feedback model; adjust frequency as needed.
• Contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and process meetings.
• Author and review SOPs and KB articles; highlight recurring error patterns.
