The candidate will resolve high-complexity tax issues, draft agency responses, and ensure accurate documentation and transfer of knowledge to the team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years payroll tax experience focused on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types; ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency response letters.
• Experience preparing amended Federal (941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, deposits, penalties and interest.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the queue, owning the full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions; trace discrepancies and drive correction workflow.
• Maintain high productivity in resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notice resolutions with high accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases and blockers, and propose resolutions with root-cause analysis.
• Serve as real-time resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors; coach and transfer knowledge to build team capability.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions quarterly; enhance frequency for gaps; contribute to team QA and SOP improvements.
• Identify trends and communicate findings to stakeholders; drive implementation of resolutions.
