Job summary

Intuit Careers is seeking a Staff Payroll Tax Processor (Senior Payroll Tax Expert) to act as a technical lead on a team handling notices, corrections, and amendments. This remote role focuses on tax defect resolution and knowledge transfer to the group, not pure payroll processing.

You will resolve complex state/federal notices, file amended returns across multiple states, and guide junior staff while driving process improvements and SOP development.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Experience drafting penalty abatement requests and agency responses with documentation.
• Hands-on experience preparing amended Federal (Form 941-X) and State payroll tax returns.
• Deep knowledge of FICA, FUTA, FITW, and state/local payroll tax rules.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex state and federal payroll tax notices, from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended payroll tax returns across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods and jurisdictions.
• Coach and mentor junior staff, lead sessions, and share knowledge via SOPs and KB.
• Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams.
