Job summary

ABB seeks aSenior Technical Business Developer to drive the Grid Automation portfolio expansion in the U.S. market. The role is remote in the US, with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX, reporting to Product Marketing Director within ABB’s Distribution Solutions.

You will lead market strategy, engage with utilities, and shape technology partnerships while influencing standards groups. 9+ years in grid/energy BD, strong communication, and travel up to 30% are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% - domestic and international - may be required.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership - Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities and shaping market penetration strategy.
• Technical engagement - Act as a gridautomation SME, lead presales technical activities, and support solution design.
• Standards influence - Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups and shape interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation - Build strategic partnerships and evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
