ABB in the United States seeks a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the expansion of the Grid Automation portfolio. You will bridge advanced grid technologies with market penetration strategy, engaging utilities and partners to drive growth.

The role reports to the Product Marketing Director and involves remote work with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX. This position emphasizes technical engagement, standards influence, and ecosystem-building as you advance offerings like SSC600,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% - domestic and international - may be required.

Responsibilities

• Market strategy leadership – Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities, shaping market penetration strategy, and securing product homologation with key utilities.
• Technical engagement – Act as a gridautomation SME, lead presales technical activities, and support solution design across architectures, protection systems, and integration workflows.
• Standards influence – Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups, representing the company to help shape emerging grid automation standards and interoperability frameworks.
• Ecosystem & innovation – Build strategic partnerships, represent the company at industry forums, and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
