Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer for 100% remote work in approved states. You will implement data protection controls, encryption, access management, and secure data pipelines across the enterprise data estate.

You will collaborate with analytics, governance, and IT teams to support secure data solutions. The role emphasizes least-privilege access, code-driven automation, and documentation of runbooks and implementation guides.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency with SQL and data security concepts.
• Experience with Azure SQL, SQL Server, Databricks, and cloud analytics platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption for data at rest and in transit; manage CMK and key rotation.
• Enforce least-privilege access; perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, sharing and export workflows.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using IaC and scripts.
• Document guides, runbooks, and provide hands-on support.
