Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to safeguard institutional data across the enterprise. The role focuses on encryption, access controls, labeling, masking, and secure data pipelines in a 100% remote capacity from approved states.

You will work with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server, implementing robust protection controls and automating security processes across data platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency with SQL and database security configurations.
• Experience implementing data protection controls, DLP, classification, labeling, masking and encryption.

Responsibilities

• Implement data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Operate encryption controls for data at rest and in transit.
• Enforce least-privilege access models and conduct entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL and SQL Server.
• Secure data ingestion, transformation, and pipelines; manage service identities and private endpoints.
• Protect non-production environments with synthetic data and masking.
• Automate deployment, validation, and compliance using scripting and IaC.
• Create guides, runbooks, and participate in threat modeling and design reviews.
• Provide hands-on support to teams deploying data solutions.
