Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve safeguards across the enterprise data estate. The role focuses on encryption, key management, access controls, and secure data pipelines, working with teams across Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT.

The position is 100% remote from approved states in the U.S., with a strong emphasis on least-privilege access and secure configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• Experience with data protection lifecycle, encryption, key management and access controls.
• Familiarity with Azure identity, networking, storage and governance services.
• Proficiency with SQL and database security configurations.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and improve data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption for data at rest and in transit and manage keys/secrets using vaulting services.
• Enforce least-privilege access models across platforms, databases, and pipelines.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL and SQL Server.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and export workflows.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Document implementation guides, configuration standards, and runbooks; provide hands-on support.
