Job summary

Affirm is seeking a remote Senior Software Engineer, Backend on the Post-Purchase International team to build scalable backend systems powering the end-to-end post-purchase journey across regions. The role collaborates with European engineering counterparts and global product teams from Spain.

You will own delivery goals, mentor engineers, and contribute to frontend tasks when needed, while prioritizing reliability, elegant design, and cross-team communication.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, building, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Strong written and verbal communication for collaborating across a global engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly delivery goals and lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics across ideation, trade-off discussions, and technical decisions.
• Proactively surface project, process, technology, or business issues and drive them to resolution.
• Maintain reliability of team services through metrics, monitoring, escalation, and on-call support.
• Set and improve code review, design, and quality standards across the team and beyond.
• Contribute occasionally to full-stack work, including front-end components needed to ship end-to-end features.
• Mentor and grow engineers through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
