Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform to shape backend systems powering orders, captures, refunds, and settlements. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and own decisions with long-term impact.

You will lead reliability and scalability initiatives, design APIs with clear boundaries, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to deliver high-quality, maintainable services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Strong track record building highly available distributed systems.
• Experience delivering major features with clear API boundaries.
• Comfort with ambiguity and evolving architectures for scale.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field or higher.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute technical strategy for the Order Platform team.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics across the lifecycle.
• Act as a force-multiplier by advocating scalable technical solutions.
• Own operations, monitoring, on-call readiness, and incident response.
• Set and enforce code and design standards across the team.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to talent development.
