Affirm, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Order Platform to shape post-checkout systems—orders, captures, refunds, and settlement—at scale. This remote-friendly role emphasizes reliability, high availability, and leadership on technical direction.

You will mentor engineers, own critical components, and collaborate with product, design, and analytics to deliver business-impacting features while maintaining quality and velocity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin for backend services.
• Extensive experience with highly available distributed systems.
• Strong API design, data consistency and fault-tolerance focus.
• Proven ability to drive technical direction and execute plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainable solutions.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring and runbooks.
• Set code and design standards and evangelize them across teams.
• Mentor engineers and lead by example.
