Job summary

affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build backend systems powering its growth engine. You will create scalable APIs, data models, and services, collaborating with Product, Data Science, and Analytics to drive acquisition and engagement.

The role emphasizes strong backend expertise, cloud knowledge (AWS), and experience with experimentation platforms, all in a remote-first setup across North America. Mentorship and reliability duties are included.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a focus on backend systems.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and SOA, related scalability and reliability implications.
• Proven track record delivering complex backend systems in production.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, proficient in asynchronous docs and plans.
• Ability to collaborate across Product, Data Science, Analytics, and Design teams.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin; experience with AWS and experimentation platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems, APIs, and data models for communications, experimentation, and personalization.
• Drive planning and prioritization based on product, technical, and business goals with data-driven decisions.
• Partner with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Analysts to define growth strategies.
• Establish and uphold engineering best practices for security, observability, and performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and support on-call operations and reliability initiatives.
