Job summary

Affirm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Order Platform team to shape the systems powering orders, captures, refunds and settlement. You will drive the technical strategy that enables merchants and consumers to transact reliably at scale while keeping the platform highly available.

You will join a small, senior team doing high-leverage work, mentor engineers, and own long-term decisions that influence product launches and platform direction.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Analytical and discerning in designing services with clear API boundaries, reliability, and proper handling of consistency and failure modes, ideally in payments or finance.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align it with business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood.
• Act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own your team’s operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, and on-call readiness.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards.
• Develop talent by mentoring engineers and leading by example.
